Excellent Thrifty Halloween Costumes…
At a recent event (theme: “Under the Sea”) I spotted these young ladies dressed to kill as the Odyssey’s Sirens. Upon further investigation I learned that not only were these costumes beautiful but they were also very thrifty!
I interviewed the chief architect of the “look” (pictured at center) and she passed along the following information:
“1. Components: XL hanes t-shirt, some sort of belt/ribbon, shell necklaces and head bands. The shirts can be bought at Walmart, k-mart, etc. You can use an old belt. I got the shell necklaces and supplies for the head bands at Michael’s arts and crafts store
2. The headbands can be made many ways:
- plain gold ribion with a starfish
- 3 pieces of gold ribbon, braided with a starfish
- 2 pieces of gold ribbon, twisted with starfish
- excess t-shirt scraps with ribbon wrapped around it with starfish
*Make sure the ribbon has wiring to make it easier to twist, braid, etc.
*Also the starfish i bought used to be alive, but were dried up (gave it the sea affect)
3. I would say each costume cost between $12 - $20.”
Thank you to the sirens for sharing their thriftiness with us!
