Me with some of my recent finds.
Name: Caroline
Birthday: 8/14/83
Thrifting Since: As far back as I can remember. My mother is a thrifter and I have distinct memories of shopping for jackets with her at the Stock Exchange in Manchester. My personal interest in thrifting goes back to middle school (1994ish). Anna and I would shop at the old Sal Val* in Gloucester and at the White Elephant, in Essex, where I would buy Kurt Cobain inspired, old man sweaters.
Ideal Day of Thrifting: Leave the house before 9:30 am (this happens about twice a year when I go shopping without Anna) on a Saturday. Sit shotgun while Anna drives and assess whether the yard sales are stop worthy or not. Continue on to Second Glance to drop off a load for donation in the back. This allows for hours of guilt free shopping at the thrift store in front (must take extra care not to buy back own stuff). Find an “ironic” t-shirt for my boyfriend, Roy,that makes reference to a private joke we have or a place we have been together. Forget my wallet at home/in the car/at Dunks and still manage to pay for items with scrounged change from bottom of purse/car/Anna. Wear newly purchased jewelry and cardigan out that night and proudly let people know that I spent less than a dollar seventy five on them.
I’m a Sucker For: 1000 piece puzzles (photographic landscapes unacceptable- too much sky and grass); gold jewelry, especially earrings; cardigans; cloth napkins and table cloths; anything impractically fancy (bejeweled combs, gaudy clip ons, sequined dresses, hand mirrors); purses and hand bags.
My Best Find Lately: Strappy, braided leather heels. They cost $4 at Second Glance and I’ve worn them to multiple weddings.
Still Looking for: Awesome, faded Aerosmith T-shirt for my Garth costume.
