Once, years ago, Anna and I were walking along Main St. in Gloucester when we heard a peculiar screeching noise. I was convinced, since we were so close to the harbor, that we were hearing seagulls. It being summer, Anna thought the noise was coming from a group of children playing nearby. As we rounded the corner by the old Mystery Train, we clearly saw that we were both right. In front of us was a line of children dressed up as and acting like seagulls. Unexpected and cute.
Recently, Anna and I had a similar encounter, kind of. We had just bought some not so thrifty groceries at Bruni’s in Ipswich (although their ice coffee is a bargain compared with Dunks and Starbucks and is featured in Thrifty Sisty at Todd Farm) when we saw a confusing sign. Well two signs, rather. One sign was for a hair salon and the other was for a consignment shop. There was only one shop window so we argued about what was inside until a friendly man popped his head out the door and invited us in. Turns out, once again, that we were both right. The store is a beauty salon/consignment shop. The owner of the salon saw an opportunity in the space that he wasn’t using and set up a small consignment business. He has four or five vendors with their own displays and merchandise and he receives a percentage of each sale. Genius! After a nice chat and a thorough perusal of items, Anna and I walked away with a new appreciation for the Bruni’s plaza, a picture frame and pair of boots!
Stop by if you’re in Ipswich…great selection and service!
