Today we made a trip to one of our favorite Thrifty locales… Second Glance in Gloucester. Today is our mother’s birthday so we were on the prowl for some amazing finds for her (along with some decent stuff for ourselves!).
Second Glance is the thrift store associated with The Open Door, an organization that works to “alleviate the impact of hunger in our community.” They run a food pantry, provide assistance with food stamps and community meals for those in need of nutrition and companionship.
So, this is one of those “feel good” shopping opportunities. And feel good we did! We left the store with some beautiful glassware, a copy of “Sense and Sensibility”, a trivet with a beautiful buffalo design, some crafting supplies and an amazing mug for our mother.
Story on the mug… one of the first gifts our grandmother gave to our mother (after she and our dad got together) was a copy of “The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady” by Edith Holden. Caroline happened to find a mug with one of the book’s illustrations on it. She gave it to Mom, both in celebration of our mother and in celebration of our Grandmommy Millie.
Happy Birthday, Mom. We love you!
